In the Age of Technology, where social media has taken the place of snail mail, phone calls, and even face-to-face conversations keeping in touch with people whether they live next door to you or on the other side of the country, has become easier than ever. But as quickly as technology changes, keeping up with everything isn’t exactly easy. That is what we are here for!

In this step-by-step guide, you are going to learn how to send an email. The pictures included in this guide are from Microsoft Outlook but whether you are using Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Outlook or anything in between, sending an email still requires the same four basic steps.

Sign in to Your Email Account

The first step is to sign in to your email account. You can’t send an email to another email account if you don’t have your own email account. It’s kind of like making a phone call, you can’t call a phone if you don’t have a phone to make the call from. Go to your email service provider’s website, whether it is mail.yahoo.com, gmail.com, outlook.com or any of the other providers and sign in.

Create a New Email

Next, you must click on the button to create a new email.For each provider, this button may appear slightly different. It could be a ‘+’ plus sign, or it might say “new” or “new email”, or even “create”. This button is usually located somewhere new the top of the screen on the left. Clicking this button will open a brand new blank email.

Input Your Message

Once the new email has been created, there are a few details that you need to add.

  1. First, you need to add the receiver email address that you are sending it to, it may look something like this: mydaughter@email.com.
  2. After you have input the receiver’s email address, you need to add a subject. Though you can send the email without a subject, it is better to add a subject because many people will see emails without a subject and consider it to be spam which are bad emails that most people don’t open. Adding a simple subject with one to five words just so the receiver knows that the email isn’t spam.
  3. Finally, type your message. Whether it’s for work, checking up on a family member or touching base with a friend. Write what you want to tell them.

The final step is to click “Send”. Once you have clicked “Send”, you email should arrive in the recipients inbox (it’s like their email mailbox) within just a few short minutes.

That’s all it takes. Four easy steps and you are one step closer to catching up with the latest and greatest pieces of technology in our world today!
